Street Skills es un evento que reúne artistas urbanos y de Graffiti a nivel nacional, local e internacional en la ciudad de Cali (Colombia), con el fin de manifestar y proyectar el talento de artistas emergentes y aquellos que ya poseen cierta trayectoria para generar espacios de inteligibilidad dentro de la ciudad con respecto a estas prácticas artísticas. También constituye un ambiente de convergencia y desarrollo conjunto y personal del movimiento artístico y sus integrantes.

Street Skills surge de la necesidad de dar organización y oportunidades a un fenómeno socio-cultural que se ha dado en diferentes partes del mundo, y que actualmente está tomando fuerza en Cali. Añadiendo que la sociedad se encuentra, paulatinamente, más receptiva ante esta forma expresiva del lenguaje visual urbano, siendo adoptado por la juventud como su elemento de participación en la construcción y transformación de su ciudad.

Es una gran oportunidad para los artistas urbanos y de graffiti participar en Street Skills, puesto que en su segunda versión propone proyectarse integralmente entre participación y aprendizaje a través de conferencias, foros, y exposiciones; además de contar con la participación de artistas urbanos internacionales de gran trayectoria, en calidad de conferencistas y jurados, lo que permitirá tener una visión general del panorama del arte urbano desde diferentes lugares del mundo y su adaptación de acuerdo al entorno en el que se desarrolla. Esto cede el espacio idóneo para perfeccionar las habilidades y destrezas propias evaluando el trabajo colectivo, así mismo será un punto para dar a conocer al público el trabajo artístico que se ha estado haciendo en pro de la comunidad, romper el paradigma de graffiti = vandalismo y para reflexionar acerca de lo que se ha conseguido hasta el momento en la práctica de esta disciplina, guiándola hacia un proceso reflexivo en torno a la tríada: arte, artista y sociedad.

ANTECEDENTES:

En Abril de 2011, Seis Estudio Creativo le da vida a una idea innovadora en la ciudad de Cali: El primer Encuentro de Artistas de Graffiti Street Skills, que nace de la necesidad de abrir espacios para la expresión artística urbana.

El 15 y 16 de abril de 2011 se llevó a cabo el primer encuentro STREET SKILLS, que contó con la participación de más de 50 artistas de Graffiti de distintas ciudades de Colombia, entre ellas: Cali, Palmira, Bogotá, Medellín, Manizales, Dosquebradas, Pasto.

La tradicional calle 5ta de Cali fue el escenario para albergar el trabajo artístico de los participantes que se distribuyeron en tres categorías (novatos, intermedios y expertos) para demostrar sus habilidades en torno al arte urbano GRAFFITI, de los cuales se escogieron tres ganadores por parte del jurado calificador, que incluía un maestro en artes plásticas de Cali (Pablo Van Wong) , dos artistas urbanos de Bogotá ("Ark" y "Gris") y un artista de Graffiti brasilero de gran trayectoria ( "DOES", invitado internacional). La calle 5ta se transformó rápidamente en un espacio de gran concurrencia, en la que niños, jóvenes y adultos se acercaban curiosos a preguntar y apreciar este trabajo, los medios de comunicación locales y nacionales también se hicieron presentes para cubrir el acontecimiento; el acompañamiento de los guardas cívicos y la policía en el perímetro ayudó a velar por la seguridad y la sana convivencia en este punto de encuentro durante el evento.

MISIÓN

STREET SKILLS pretende generar espacios de interacción e intercambio de conocimientos para estimular el desarrollo y evolución del arte urbano y el graffiti en Colombia y el movimiento global, que a su vez, enriquecen el avance del individuo y la sociedad. Promoviendo el desarrollo urbano a través de las manifestaciones artísticas.

Ubicar a Cali como un eje importante para el desarrollo del arte urbano en Colombia y el mundo.

Con un año de existencia, Street skills ya se ha convertido en uno de los más importantes eventos de graffiti y arte urbano en Colombia, añadiendo que es el primer evento enfocado en arte urbano y graffiti que se realiza en el Occidente colombiano. Contamos con la participación de artistas de diferentes ciudades de Colombia, de asistencia gratuita e interactiva. Dejando como presente a la ciudad una serie de murales artísticos para su adecuación estética y los atributos que trae consigo estas intervenciones (recuperación estética de espacios para la habitabilidad y la transitabilidad, sentido de pertenencia con la ciudad, estímulos visuales para la sociedad en general, inclusión y participación ciudadana)

Dar a conocer nuevas formas de comunicación visual, para la aceptación por parte de la sociedad de nuevos lenguajes del arte.

WHAT IS STREET SKILLS?

Street Skills is an event that meets urban and graffiti artists nationally, locally and internationally in the city of Cali (Colombia), to express and project the talent of emerging artists and those who already have some experience, to create intelligibility spaces within the city respect to these artistic practices. It also provides a convergence environment, self-development and the development of artistic movement and its members.

Street Skills arises from the need for organization and opportunities for socio-cultural phenomenon that has occurred in different parts of the world, and is currently gaining strength in Cali. Adding that, the society is gradually more receptive to this expressive form of urban visual language being adopted by the youth as their element of participation in the construction and transformation of their city.

It is a great opportunity for urban and graffiti artists to participate in Street Skills, because in this second version it offers to project integrally between practice participation and learning through conferences, forums and exhibitions, in addition, we count with the participation of international urban artists invited with a great career, as speakers and judges, which will contribute their experiences to understand the urban art scene from different parts of the world and its adaptation according with the environment in which it develops. This gives the ideal place to perfect the own skills and abilities evaluating the colective work, and it will be a point of convergence to give to know to the public about the artwork it has been doing for the community, breaking the paradigm of graffiti = vandalism and to reflect on what has been achieved until moment in the practice of this discipline, guiding it to a reflective process around the triad: art, artist and society.

BACKGROUND

In April 2011, Seis Estudio Creativo gives life to an innovative idea in the city of Cali: , it arises of the need for to open spaces for urban artistic expressions.

the 15 and 16 of April , 2011 was celebrate the First Meeting of Graffiti Artists Street Skills, which was attended by a french participant and over 50 graffiti artists from different cities in Colombia, including Cali, Palmira, Bogotá, Medellín, Manizales, Dosquebradas , Pasto.

The traditional 5th Street of Cali was the scene to host the artwork of the participants that were distributed into three categories (novices, intermediates and experts) to demonstrate their skills around the graffiti and urban art, of which three winners were chosen by the jury, conformed by a visual arts´s teacher in Cali (Paul Van Wong), two urban artists from Bogota ("Ark" and "Gris") and a Brazilian Graffiti artist of great renown ("DOES" international guest). The 5th Street quickly became a large gathering space in which children, youth and adults came to ask about curious and appreciate this culture artwork, local and national media were also present to cover the event, we were accompanied by civil guards and police on the perimeter who helped to ensure the safety and healthy convivence in this meeting place during the event.

MISSION

STREET SKILLS aims to create spaces for interaction and knowledge sharing to encourage the development and evolution of graffiti and urban art in Colombia and global movement, which in turn, enrich the progress of the individual and society. Promoting the urban development through artistic expressions.

Locate Cali as an important hub for the development of urban art in Colombia and the world.
With a year of existence, Street Skills already has become one of the most important events of graffiti and urban art in Colombia, in addition, it is the first event focused in graffiti and urban art that is done in Western of Colombia. We have the participation of artists from different cities of Colombia, free and interactive assistance. Leaving as a gift to the city a serie of artistic murals for an esthetic suitability and the attributes that come with these interventions (an esthetic recovery for habitability spaces and walkability, sense of belonging to the city, visual stimuli for society in general, inclusion and citizen participation)
